Ex Petroleum Minister To Face Trial
The case concerns a former Nigerian oil minister as her long-awaited corruption trial is set to open in London on Monday, placing her years in public office under fresh scrutiny.
The proceedings will take place in the United Kingdom, where Alison-Madueke is facing five counts linked to bribery and an additional charge tied to an alleged conspiracy.
Investigators claim the offences were committed between 2011 and 2015 and involved dealings with individuals connected to two energy companies.
According to the indictment, she is accused of receiving “financial or other advantages” in exchange for actions connected to her official role.
These benefits allegedly included refurbishment work and staff costs for several London properties, luxury furniture, chauffeur-driven vehicles, a private jet flight to Nigeria and £100,000 in cash.
Further claims involve school fees for her son, luxury items from Harrods and Louis Vuitton, and additional private jet trips.
Alison-Madueke appeared in a London court last week for preliminary hearings, which covered technical issues and jury selection. The trial is expected to run for between 10 and 12 weeks
