Police Announces Election Movement Ban In Ondo
The Ondo State Police Command has announced a restriction on vehicular and waterway movement across Ondo South Senatorial District ahead of Saturday’s by-election, limiting movement between 6am and 6pm on election day.
The Independent National Electoral Commission scheduled the poll following the resignation of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim after his appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United Nations.
The police said the restriction is part of wider security plans for a peaceful and orderly vote.
According to the command, personnel have been deployed across the six local government areas in the district to secure polling units, collation centres, electoral offices and other sensitive locations.
Only accredited officials, journalists, observers and emergency responders will be allowed to move during the restriction period.
Authorities warned that any unauthorised movement of vehicles or boats will not be allowed, adding that security agencies have been directed to enforce the order strictly while respecting the rights of law-abiding residents.
