Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has announced her decision to switch allegiance to Turkey, bringing an end to her long-standing dispute with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

In a post on Instagram on Monday, Ofili explained that the move came after months of reflection following a challenging period in which she felt let down by the Nigerian federation.

She wrote:

“Wrapping up my 2025 season has been a whirlwind of new experiences and big decisions. Racing back-to-back across amazing cities and learning from the best has been incredible.

As some of you have heard, I’m starting a new chapter representing Turkey 🇹🇷. I am proud to have represented Nigeria for many years with great success—winning six gold medals, two silver, and two bronze in championship meets, and reaching the 200m Olympic final.

However, I also faced major disappointments due to negligence from AFN and NOC during two Olympic cycles (Tokyo and Paris), which has led me to make this decision. While this means sitting out this year’s championships in Tokyo, my choice comes from the heart, not financial motives.

I’m truly grateful to have found a new home in Turkey, and I’m excited for what lies ahead. I deeply appreciate the support of my coach, agent, sponsor @adidas, and my loved ones during this challenging time. 🧘🏾‍♀️
