Tinubu Tightens Security Around Villa Over Protest
The Federal Government deployed a large security presence around the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday ahead of a planned protest over abducted schoolchildren, teachers and other victims across the country.
Soldiers, police officers and operatives from several security agencies were stationed at major access points leading to the seat of power.
The security operation led to restrictions on both vehicles and pedestrians, with checkpoints and barricades set up on key roads.
Many workers heading to offices near the Presidential Villa, Federal Secretariat, National Assembly and Supreme Court faced delays as traffic built up across the city.
The planned demonstration was organised by activist Omoyele Sowore and the Take It Back Movement.
Protesters intended to gather at Eagle Square before moving towards Aso Rock to demand the release of abducted victims and push for stronger action against insecurity.
The protest followed growing public concern over repeated kidnappings in different parts of Nigeria.
Although no protest activity had been recorded at the time of reporting, the heavy security deployment drew attention from residents and commuters affected by the restrictions.
