Paris Saint-Germain has been ordered by a French labour court to pay former striker Kylian Mbappe up to 61 million euros ($71.8 million) in unpaid wages and bonuses.

Mbappe, who left PSG for Real Madrid in June 2024, had initially claimed over 260 million euros from the Parisian club, while PSG countered by demanding 440 million euros from the France captain.

The court rejected Mbappe’s argument that PSG applied the wrong legal classification to his contract. The final award consists of 55 million euros in unpaid salary and around six million euros in holiday pay.

PSG, owned by Qatari interests, has not yet confirmed whether it will appeal the ruling. Mbappe’s lawyers welcomed the decision, saying it “re-establishes a simple truth — even in the professional football industry, labour laws apply to everyone.”

The dispute partially stems from a failed 300-million-euro transfer to Saudi club Al Hilal in June 2023, which Mbappe declined. He eventually left PSG on a free transfer after his contract expired the following summer.

Mbappe filed a complaint in June 2024, alleging that PSG sidelined him and forced him to train with players the club wanted to offload after he refused to sign a new contract. He was excluded from PSG’s 2023 pre-season tour of Asia and missed the first game of the season but was later reinstated after discussions with the club.

During his seven-year stint at PSG, Mbappe scored 256 goals in 308 appearances. He now plays for Real Madrid, where his reported annual salary is 30 million euros. PSG went on to win their first Champions League title last season following his departure.
