The lawmaker representing Virginia’s Second District in the United States Congress, Rep Riley M. Moore, has urged the Nigerian government to disarm what he described as “radical Muslim Fulani militants” responsible for attacks across parts of the country.
Moore made the call on Saturday while reacting to the abduction of more than 300 children and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State.
The incident happened on Friday morning when armed men stormed the school, firing shots before taking a large number of students away.
In a post on his official X handle, Rep Moore expressed deep sadness over the attack, saying the incident made his “stomach turn.”
He wrote: “We now know that more than 300 children and 12 teachers have been kidnapped from St Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria.
“As a father, seeing these attacks makes my stomach turn. The Nigerian government must disarm the radical Muslim Fulani militants terrorizing the Middle Belt.”
