Kano Declares Tuesday As Public Holiday
Kano State Government has declared Tuesday June 16 2026 a public holiday to mark the start of the Islamic New Year 1448 AH.
The announcement was contained in an official statement released on Monday by the state government.
The declaration was issued by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf extended greetings to Muslims in the state and across Nigeria on the arrival of the new Islamic year which begins with Muharram.
The governor called on residents to use the period for reflection on their actions over the past year.
He also encouraged them to renew their commitment to peace, unity and community development while offering prayers for stability in Kano and the country.
The state government expressed optimism that the new Islamic year would bring progress and better living conditions for residents.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to policies aimed at improving welfare and governance in the state.
