Okonkwo Rejects ADC Coalition Zoning Plan
Kenneth Okonkwo, former Labour Party presidential campaign spokesman, has criticised reports linked to the African Democratic Congress 2027 election plans.
He raised concerns on Monday through a post on social media. The comment focused on the party’s reported zoning arrangement and its impact on national politics.
Reports had suggested that the ADC may have settled for a running mate from the South-South region.
Okonkwo said if this is correct, it would deepen political exclusion affecting the South-East. He noted that since 1999, the region has not produced a president or vice president.
He also referenced the origins of the ADC, which was founded in 2005 by Ralph Nwosu from the South-East.
According to him, the party’s background should encourage fairer regional balance in decision making. He argued that political coalitions should avoid decisions that sideline any part of the country.
Okonkwo warned that he would not support or campaign for any 2027 ticket that excludes the South-East from both top positions.
He stressed that his position is based on fairness and equal representation in national leadership choices.
