Obidient Movement Faults Party Deregistration Order
The Obidient Movement has criticised a Federal High Court ruling that ordered the deregistration of five political parties in Nigeria.
The decision was issued on Monday by Justice Peter Lifu at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The affected parties include the African Democratic Congress, Accord Party, Action Peoples Party, Action Alliance and Zenith Labour Party.
The court based its ruling on claims that the parties failed to meet constitutional requirements under electoral laws.
It followed a suit filed by the National Forum of Former Legislators, which asked INEC to enforce performance rules such as vote thresholds and electoral representation conditions for party recognition.
The Obidient Movement said the decision could reduce political participation and limit democratic choice.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, the group argued that Nigeria’s democracy must remain open to multiple political platforms and broader citizen engagement.
The group called on Nigerians to stay active in the political process, obtain their voter cards and participate in future elections.
It maintained that a healthy democracy depends on inclusion, fair competition and strong participation from citizens across the country.
