The KAP Film & Television Academy celebrated a major milestone with the Graduation Ceremony of its Filmmaking Residency Programme, organised in collaboration with the Oyo State Government.
The event, held on Wednesday at the scenic KAP Film Village & Resort in Igbojaye, Oyo State, highlighted the remarkable creativity of 165 emerging filmmakers carefully selected from all 33 local government areas of the state.
The participants completed a 10-day intensive filmmaking residency programme at the resort. Supported by SONY and Kontakt Pro Nigeria, the initiative provided the trainees with practical and hands-on experience across key areas of filmmaking such as screenwriting, directing, cinematography, producing, editing, and sound design.
A key feature of the event was the screening of eight short films produced by the residency groups. Each film showcased strong storytelling, teamwork, and authentic representations of local culture, earning enthusiastic applause from guests and faculty members.
During the ceremony, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, described the programme as an important milestone in the state’s economic and cultural development.
He praised Kunle Afolayan and the KAP team for creating a thriving creative ecosystem that promotes film, talent development, and tourism in Oyo State.

He also congratulated the students for their dedication, passion, and craftsmanship, calling their work “a true representation of Oyo’s cultural pride and creative excellence.”
The Founder of the KAP Film & Television Academy and visionary behind the KAP Film Village & Resort, Kunle Afolayan, commended the Oyo State Government for providing a strong platform for youth empowerment in the state. He also advised the students on the importance of discipline, creativity, and cultural identity in filmmaking.
He said, “Attention to details and commitment to creativity are non-negotiable for great filmmakers. These students have shown that talent, when nurtured in the right environment, can flourish into excellence. I encourage them to keep making films together and continue telling our stories with pride.”
The graduating students received valuable feedback from prominent industry professionals and members of the faculty, including Tunde Kelani, Joke Silva, Kemi Adesoye, Rotimi Fakunle, and Lola Maja, who all praised their storytelling skills, teamwork, and technical improvement throughout the programme.
The Oluigbo of Igbojaye, Oba Zaccheus Olatunji Oyeleke Alobaloke III, expressed his delight at the achievement of the goals set for the KAP Film Village & Resort, reaffirming his satisfaction with the project he had earlier endorsed with his royal blessing.
