LASUTH Doctors Strike Threatens Lagos Healthcare – NMA
Healthcare services in Lagos are facing fresh pressure as the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) raised concerns over the ongoing three-day warning strike by resident doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital.
The action was triggered by unresolved welfare issues, with the association warning that prolonged delays in addressing the concerns could worsen the situation and affect patient care across the state.
The strike was declared by the Association of Resident Doctors after what members described as the failure of authorities to resolve long-standing demands.
Among the issues are unpaid promotion arrears, delayed implementation of revised allowances, welfare concerns and the need for improved support for doctors undergoing residency training.
According to the NMA Lagos branch, the dispute could spread beyond LASUTH if urgent intervention is not made.
The association noted that similar concerns have surfaced in other hospitals, while resident doctors nationwide have continued to push for better welfare packages, payment of allowances and improved working conditions.
The association called on the Lagos State Government, hospital management and health authorities to engage with the doctors and reach a quick resolution.
It warned that continued delays could disrupt healthcare delivery, while urging medical personnel to remain professional as discussions continue.
