Makinde Backs Adekanmbi For Oyo Race
Fresh political moves emerged in Oyo State on Wednesday as Governor Seyi Makinde was linked with plans to back former Finance Commissioner, Bimbo Adekanmbi, for the 2027 governorship election.
Sources within the ruling camp also said loyalists of the governor may adopt the Action Democratic Party as their new political platform.
Reports from insiders showed that consultations had already been held with party leaders, lawmakers and local government chairmen across the state.
Some sources claimed Adekanmbi had secured support from influential figures ahead of a formal announcement expected within days.
Adekanmbi, who once served under late former governor Abiola Ajimobi, joined the PDP in December 2025 before openly declaring his governorship ambition earlier this year.
Since then, he has reportedly intensified meetings with stakeholders and political groups across Oyo State.
The development comes as the PDP battles a deepening leadership crisis after the Supreme Court nullified the party’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan.
While party officials said they were still waiting for Makinde’s final decision, growing speculation suggests major political realignments may shape the Oyo governorship race ahead of 2027.
