Comedian and entertainer Mr Jollof has voiced concern over the soaring performance fees charged by Nigerian musicians, describing them as “unrealistic” and potentially damaging to the festive season’s celebrations.
In a message shared on social media, Mr Jollof urged artistes to reconsider their rates, warning that the high costs could make it difficult for promoters and fans to enjoy the usual excitement of December events.
He wrote: “Dear Nigerian Music Artists, the current rate of billing is becoming unrealistic. If it continues, this festive season might not deliver the energy we all expect. Fans, promoters, and communities are struggling with costs — there will be little justification to pay such high amounts. Please, let’s be reasonable so December can remain a season of joy, not disappointment.”
His comments have drawn mixed reactions, with some supporting his call for moderation while others argued that artistes are justified in charging high fees due to inflation and rising living costs.
