A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, has died from severe burns after allegedly being set on fire by his wife during a domestic dispute in Akwa Ibom State.

Reports indicate that the incident followed an argument between the couple inside their apartment at the army barracks, during which the wife allegedly poured fuel on Lieutenant Haruna and ignited him in anger.

Neighbours, alerted by his screams, rushed to the scene, extinguished the flames, and took him to a hospital, where he battled for several days before succumbing to his injuries.

Colleagues described Lieutenant Haruna as a calm and disciplined soldier, making his death particularly tragic. Sources also noted that the couple had a history of frequent disputes prior to the deadly altercation.

The wife has been arrested by police and is currently being questioned as investigations continue.

The incident has sparked widespread shock online, with many Nigerians condemning domestic violence and calling for greater awareness and preventive measures. Lieutenant Haruna’s death has left both the army community and the public mourning a senseless and tragic loss.
