Branded as ALAT: The Evolution, the upgraded app represents a major shift in how customers engage with banking services. It introduces intelligent features such as voice banking, known as SAW, which enables users to perform banking transactions using natural voice commands, improving accessibility and reducing friction.

The new version also features Tap and Pay, allowing customers to carry out quick, secure and convenient contactless transactions. In addition, uptime prediction has been introduced to improve transparency, reliability and customer confidence regarding service availability.

These innovations are designed to simplify daily banking activities while anticipating customer needs in real time, reflecting Wema Bank’s commitment to efficiency, trust and customer-focused digital solutions.

Speaking at the launch, Wema Bank’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Moruf Oseni, described the upgrade as more than a routine improvement.

According to him, “ALAT: The Evolution is more than an upgrade. It is a clear demonstration of our commitment to redefining digital banking in Africa. By understanding the future of banking and listening closely to our customers, we have upgraded ALAT by Wema to a digital banking platform that is smart, intelligent and dependable.”

He added that the development reinforces the bank’s promise to deliver innovations that improve how customers live, work and transact daily.

Oseni also assured customers that migrating to the upgraded app would be seamless, explaining that existing users only need to update their ALAT app via the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and log in with their current details.

He confirmed that customers’ account information and transaction history remain fully intact, while giving them access to new features that make banking faster, more intuitive and more reliable.

For new users, Oseni said onboarding is simple, as they only need to download the ALAT by Wema app from the app stores and click the Get Started option to open an account.

Commenting on the technology behind the upgrade, the Chief Digital Officer, Olusegun Adeniyi, said the focus was on improving both functionality and the overall banking experience.

“With ALAT: The Evolution, we set out to enhance not just functionality but the overall banking experience. By integrating voice banking, contactless payments and predictive reliability, we are delivering a platform that is built on powerful technology and responds intelligently to customer needs,” he said.

Adeniyi added that the upgrade reflects Wema Bank’s long-term digital vision of building a banking platform that is adaptive, intuitive and consistently available.

Built around speed, intelligence and user-focused design, ALAT: The Evolution redefines everyday banking through features such as voice-enabled transactions, contactless payments and predictive service reliability.

With this upgrade, Wema Bank continues to strengthen its standing as a digital-first institution, offering innovative solutions that enable individuals and businesses to bank confidently in an increasingly digital economy.
