Makinde To Unveil Oyo Candidate
In Oyo State, Governor Seyi Makinde has said he will reveal his preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship race before early May.
The announcement came through a newsletter on Saturday as consultations continue. He noted that several strong contenders have emerged after wide engagement.
The move is part of ongoing preparations ahead of the election.
The governor explained that he has been meeting elders, religious leaders and key stakeholders to guide his decision. He said the process has been careful due to the weight of the choice.
He also dismissed claims that he had already picked a candidate. According to him, any such reports are false and misleading.
Among those being considered are Nureni Adeniran, Segun Ogunwuyi, Taofeek Arapaja, Adebo Ogundoyin and Adedeji Stanley Olajide.
The selection process has drawn attention as political activities build up. Party insiders say screening has been ongoing for weeks.
Makinde added that the final platform for the candidate depends on a pending ruling by the Supreme Court on the Peoples Democratic Party. He said the outcome will determine the next steps.
Recent political rumours involving figures like Florence Ajimobi and Ayodele Fayose have also been dismissed. The governor maintained that the focus remains on a smooth transition and party unity.
