Police Confirms Church Attack In Ekiti
In Ekiti State, police confirmed on Wednesday that gunmen attacked a night service in Eda Oniyo, killing a pastor and abducting several worshippers.
The incident happened late Tuesday during prayers at a church in Ilejemeje Local Government Area, leaving the community shaken and families searching for answers.
The attackers, said to be about five in number, struck around 10:30pm when members had gathered at the outskirts of the town.
They opened fire, killed the cleric on the spot, and forcefully took away others. The sudden violence disrupted what had been a quiet religious gathering.
Security agencies have since moved in, launching a wide search across nearby forests to track down the suspects and free those taken.
Police are working alongside the military, local security outfits, and community hunters in a coordinated operation aimed at preventing further attacks.
Authorities also urged residents and religious groups to stay alert and inform security agencies before holding late-night events.
They called for vigilance across communities as efforts continue to restore calm and bring those behind the attack to justice.
