Political Tension Rises In Osun As Police Confirms Abductions
Political tension grew in Ilesa, Osun State, after two Accord Party members were reportedly taken away on Thursday night, days before the August 15 governorship election.
The Osun State Police Command later confirmed that both men are in its custody and are helping with an ongoing investigation.
Police spokesperson CSP Abiodun Ojelabi said the command initially received reports of abduction but later uncovered other suspected criminal issues linked to the incident.
He added that those believed to be behind the act have not yet been arrested.
Videos from the scene spread online, including one showing armed men forcing a man into a vehicle carrying the “AMBO” campaign inscription.
Another clip showed an elderly woman appealing for the release of her son, while Accord Party supporters staged a protest in Ilesa, accusing suspected APC thugs of targeting their members.
The Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council denied the allegation and described the viral video as a staged attempt to damage the image of its candidate.
The council claimed the use of an “AMBO”-branded vehicle was meant to mislead the public, while efforts to get a response from the Accord Party were unsuccessful.
