Afrobeats star Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, is under fire online following allegations that he has repeatedly used police influence to harass and detain interior designer Amaka Obasi over an unresolved payment dispute.

The controversy erupted after X user @software_artist posted a detailed thread alleging that Obasi, known online as @amaka_babyy, was invited to a meeting at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Alagbon, Lagos, only to be arrested and allegedly coerced into paying over one million naira as bail.

According to the thread, Obasi handled several projects for Rema, including renovating his mother’s home in Benin, making improvements to his personal residence, building a music studio, and upgrading a water system. Instead of paying her fees, Rema allegedly filed multiple petitions with the police, resulting in three separate arrests linked to the same dispute.

The viral posts further claimed that officers instructed Obasi to switch off her phone so Rema would assume she was still in custody. It was also alleged that Rema’s mother submitted a petition accusing Obasi of delivering substandard work on a previous project, despite allegedly commissioning her for new work afterward.

“URGENT!! We need your help!!” @software_artist wrote in the thread, accusing Rema of manipulating the police to intimidate Obasi into dropping her claims. The user also alleged that authorities threatened to parade Obasi as a criminal unless the posts were deleted.

As of the time of filing this report, neither Rema nor the Nigeria Police Force has publicly responded to the allegations.
