Ribadu Accused Over Boko Haram Reports
Fresh controversy has emerged within Nigeria’s security circle after military sources alleged that officials linked to the office of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu ordered commanders to suppress reports of Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks until after the 2027 elections.
The claims followed deadly assaults on military formations in Yobe State.
Sources said tension rose after reports surfaced that at least 36 soldiers and Mobile Police officers were killed during coordinated attacks on military facilities in Buni Gari and Buniyadi in Gujba Local Government Area.
According to the insiders, some commanders became furious over how details of the incident reached the media shortly after the attacks.
The sources alleged that soldiers were warned against speaking to journalists, with threats of punishment for anyone caught leaking operational information.
They also claimed security officials believed repeated reports of insurgent attacks were damaging the image of President Bola Tinubu and the military ahead of the next general election.
The attacks reportedly happened in the early hours of Friday when insurgents stormed two military formations in Yobe State.
Military insiders described the incident as one of the deadliest recent assaults in the region, with heavy casualties recorded among troops and police officers undergoing training.
