Sowore Alleges Tinubu Plot To Block 2027 Presidential Bid
Omoyele Sowore, human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate, has accused the administration of President Bola Tinubu of using legal actions to stop him from contesting the 2027 general election.
He made the claim on Friday in Abuja while speaking to journalists shortly before attending court proceedings in two separate cases.
He said the ongoing trials were politically driven and aimed at weakening his political future.
Sowore stated that he believes both government officials and those handling his case are working towards securing his conviction.
He argued that such a move would be used to disqualify him from future elections. He also criticised proceedings in one of the cases before Justice M.G. Umar, alleging bias in the handling of the matter.
He pointed to courtroom interactions involving his legal team as part of his concerns.
The activist further said he had lost confidence in the judicial process tied to the case, insisting that any judge facing doubts from an accused person should step aside.
He maintained that fair hearing was not possible under the current circumstances. According to him, the legal actions against him are connected to his political views and public statements.
He linked the situation to broader concerns about freedom of expression.
Sowore is currently facing multiple charges, including a protest-related case at the Kuje Magistrate Court involving demands for the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
He is also standing trial over remarks made against President Tinubu. Despite the legal battles, he said he will continue his activism and political activities.
He restated his commitment to what he described as a struggle for justice and political freedom.
