Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has been ruled out for the rest of the 2025/2026 season after Werder Bremen confirmed he suffered a serious knee injury.

The Nigerian striker had been managing the problem since last summer and continued playing through the early part of the season. However, the injury worsened in December, forcing him to miss Bremen’s final two matches of the year. Medical examinations later revealed damage to the cartilage in his knee.

Boniface initially opted to delay treatment in the hope that the issue would stabilise. By December, doctors confirmed that the cartilage damage had progressed to a point where continuing to play was no longer possible. Although surgery was immediately advised, the striker sought a second opinion in Austria following the Christmas break. His medical appointment, scheduled for January 7, was delayed by one day due to bad weather.

After further assessments, specialists concluded that surgery was unavoidable and would require a lengthy recovery period. Werder Bremen confirmed that Boniface will undergo the procedure in the coming days, effectively ending his season. The club added that his rehabilitation will extend beyond the current campaign, with no specific return date provided.

The setback is a major blow for both Werder Bremen and the Super Eagles, as Boniface will miss all remaining club matches and upcoming international commitments. Attention will now be focused on his recovery, with hopes of a full return ahead of next season.
