APC Moves To Resolve Post Primaries Tension In States
The All Progressives Congress is reviewing its list of candidates across several states as it moves to ease tensions that followed its primaries ahead of the 2027 elections.
The party is focusing on ensuring that nominees are acceptable to voters and capable of delivering victory at the polls.
Disputes have emerged in states including Kwara, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, Benue, Rivers and Bauchi.
While some governors secured nominations for their preferred candidates, aggrieved aspirants are protesting alleged irregularities and threatening to work against party choices in the general election.
In Benue State, tensions remain high between Governor Hyacinth Alia and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, over control of party tickets.
Similar disagreements are playing out in other states where factions are pushing competing lists, raising concerns within the party leadership.
Party leaders in Abuja, including President Bola Tinubu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, are reportedly involved in efforts to calm the situation.
The Independent National Electoral Commission timetable has added pressure, with nomination deadlines approaching and internal disputes still unresolved.
In Bauchi, Taraba and Kwara, rival camps continue to question the legitimacy of candidates emerging from the primaries.
APC officials say committees are reviewing complaints and working on a compromise formula, warning that weak candidates could hurt the party’s chances in 2027.
