The wife and daughter of the late Anglican priest, Venerable Edwin Achi, have regained their freedom after spending three months in the hands of kidnappers.

The family was abducted from their home in Nissi community, Kaduna State, on October 28, 2025, during a violent night raid.

The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦600 million, later reducing it to ₦200 million, but the family could not meet the demands. Venerable Achi was tragically killed while in captivity.

Late last night, authorities confirmed the release of his wife and daughter, bringing an end to their traumatic ordeal. The news has sparked relief nationwide, though many Nigerians continue to mourn the priest’s death.

Social media users described the development as “bittersweet,” noting that while the family’s safety is a relief, it came at a painful cost.

The tragedy highlights the ongoing insecurity in northern Nigeria and the persistent threats faced by religious leaders in the region.
