Wolverhampton Wanderers have parted ways with head coach Vitor Pereira after a disastrous start to the Premier League season left the club bottom of the table.
The decision comes after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Fulham — a result Pereira admitted was Wolves’ “worst performance” under his management. The loss extended their winless run to 10 league matches, with only two points collected so far.
The Portuguese coach, 57, had signed a contract extension in September that was meant to keep him at Molineux until 2028, despite Wolves already enduring their worst-ever start to a top-flight campaign with five straight defeats.
Pereira’s team also crashed out of the Carabao Cup last week following a 4-3 loss to Chelsea in the round of 16, further intensifying pressure on his position.
He was appointed in December 2024 after replacing Gary O’Neil, when Wolves were 19th in the table with just six points from their opening 19 matches. Pereira managed to turn things around with ten wins from their remaining 22 games, guiding the side to safety with a 16th-place finish.
However, the momentum soon evaporated. After a six-game winning streak in April, Wolves have failed to win any of their 14 Premier League matches since, losing 11 of them.
Fan frustration reached its peak after last weekend’s late defeat to Burnley, when Pereira appeared to clash with supporters amid chants of “you’re getting sacked in the morning.” Those chants resurfaced during the Fulham loss.
“Two months ago they sang my name because of what we did last season,” Pereira said after the Burnley game. “Now, without results, they sing my name maybe to sack me. But if I were a supporter, I would still feel proud of my team because they worked and showed mentality.”
Wolves’ struggles were compounded by the summer departures of key players Rayan Aït-Nouri and Matheus Cunha to Manchester City and Manchester United respectively. Despite bringing in seven new signings, Pereira failed to arrest the decline that has now cost him his job.
