Abducted School Children, Teachers Still Inside National Park – Makinde
The governor of Oyo has confirmed that schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area are still being held within the Old Oyo National Park.
He said the victims have remained in captivity for 27 days, leaving families and communities in distress and uncertainty.
Makinde gave the update in a statement on Friday, noting that security operations are ongoing within the forested area.
The abducted students and teachers were taken from their schools by armed groups, and efforts to secure their release have continued since the incident occurred.
The governor said the location of the victims has been traced to the Old Oyo National Park corridor, a vast and difficult terrain that has slowed rescue efforts.
He added that security agencies are working within the area to track the movement of the abductors and secure the safe return of those kidnapped.
Authorities have assured residents that operations will continue until the victims are rescued.
Families of the abducted pupils and teachers remain in anxiety as the search enters its fourth week, with officials maintaining that updates will be provided as progress is made.
