ADC Files Petition On El Rufai Disqualification
A stakeholder of the African Democratic Congress in Kaduna North has asked the party leadership to void the candidacy of Bello El-Rufai for the House of Representatives seat.
The petition was submitted by Hussaini Baba, who argued that the lawmaker failed to meet the party’s membership requirements before the primary election.
Baba claimed El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, joined the ADC only days before the primary.
He alleged that the lawmaker was neither a recognised member nor listed in the party register before the deadline for membership documentation.
The petitioner argued that allowing the candidacy to stand would weaken internal democracy and unfairly sideline long-serving party members.
He maintained that rewarding late defectors could create tension within the party and damage confidence in its processes.
Baba urged the ADC leadership to investigate the matter, withdraw El-Rufai’s candidacy and organise a fresh primary involving eligible aspirants.
Copies of the petition were also sent to Independent National Electoral Commission and other party bodies for review.
