IGP Warns Against Old And Manipulated Police Videos
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has urged Nigerians to stop sharing old or misleading police-related videos online, warning that such content can create panic and distort public understanding of security situations.
Disu made the appeal while addressing concerns over the spread of recycled footage on social media, which he said is often wrongly presented as current incidents.
He noted that this trend has affected trust between the police and the public.
He explained that some of the videos being circulated were recorded during past operations and are now being reused to misinform citizens about present-day events.
According to him, this has led to unnecessary tension in some communities.
The police chief called on Nigerians to verify information before sharing it and to rely on official police communication channels for accurate updates.
He also stressed the need for responsible use of social media to support public safety efforts.
