ADC Holds convention, Dares INEC
In Abuja, the African Democratic Congress is proceeding with its national convention today despite opposition from Independent National Electoral Commission.
The event follows internal congresses held nationwide earlier in April. Party officials confirmed readiness to go ahead with the gathering. The convention also coincides with a key court hearing involving party leadership.
The development comes as the Supreme Court of Nigeria hears an appeal filed by David Mark over a leadership dispute. The case challenges a Court of Appeal ruling and seeks to halt its enforcement.
A related matter is also before the Federal High Court. Both cases may affect the party’s leadership structure moving forward.
The party opted for an alternative venue after failing to secure Eagle Square. It has now chosen Rainbow Event Centre in Garki for the convention.
Efforts to use the national stadium velodrome also did not succeed. Reports indicate several venues declined to host the event amid concerns over possible pressure.
Meanwhile, Nyesom Wike denied that any request to use Eagle Square was rejected. He said no formal application was received through the proper channel. According to him, access to the venue depends on due process and payment of required fees.
The disagreement adds to the tension surrounding the party’s convention plans.
