APC Gov. Candidate Denies Link To Wanted Criminal
The Oyo State Accord Party governorship candidate, Oriyomi Hamzat, has denied claims linking him to a suspected armed robber identified as Surajudeen Adio Babatunde, also known as Surii Ilupeju.
He said the allegation circulating online was aimed at damaging his reputation.
Hamzat stated that the report was a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and drag his name into a criminal matter involving a police-wanted suspect.
He said he only became aware of the claims through social media and saw no reason to accept what he described as false information.
He maintained that he has never supported or been involved in any criminal activity, adding that his public life as a broadcaster and politician has always been guided by law and integrity.
He also said that association with any individual does not make him responsible for their actions.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed a raid on the suspect’s residence in Ibadan, where five suspected armed robbers were arrested and weapons were recovered.
Hamzat urged the public to ignore the allegations, insisting they were politically motivated.
