The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will meet today to consider and ratify the findings of the Osun State Screening Appeal Committee, which reviewed the disqualification of seven governorship hopefuls earlier barred from participating in the party’s 13 December primary election.
The five-member appeal panel, led by Senator Tolu Odebiyi, held a two-day engagement with the affected aspirants and has finalised its report ahead of its official presentation to the NWC at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Those seeking reversal of their disqualification include former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi; Dotun Babayemi; Akin Ogunbiyi; Senator Babajide Omoworare; Kunle Adegoke (SAN); and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.
Before the appeal process, the screening committee, headed by Barrister Obinna Uzor, had cleared only Hon. Mulikat Adeola Jimoh and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, confirming that both met all requirements for participation in the primary.
The remaining seven were forwarded to the NWC for a final decision.
A member of the appeal panel described the review as constructive, saying all aspirants presented documents and arguments to support their cases.
According to the committee member, the sessions were “peaceful and conducted in a cordial, family-like atmosphere.”
The panel’s recommendations will be transmitted to the NWC through the office of the National Organising Secretary for deliberation at Monday’s meeting.
Meanwhile, the APC has fixed its delegate congress and the appeal process for 9 and 10 December, ahead of the governorship primary scheduled for 13 December.
