Aspirant Accuses NDC Of Tickets Sale Scam, Manipulation
Fresh controversy has hit the Abia chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress as several aspirants accused party leaders of manipulating the process for House of Representatives and Senate tickets ahead of the 2027 elections.
The aggrieved members alleged that candidates were favoured based on financial strength rather than a transparent selection process.
The aspirants claimed the party first proposed a consensus arrangement before suddenly announcing primaries with less than two days’ notice.
They alleged that in several areas, especially in Abia North, proper elections did not take place and preferred candidates were simply declared winners.
Some of the aspirants accused former lawmaker Uko Nkole of influencing the outcome of the exercise.
They also alleged that the party structure had been taken over by powerful interests and that tickets were effectively reserved for aspirants with the deepest pockets.
The dispute has heightened concerns about internal democracy within the party as preparations for the 2027 polls gather pace.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the party leadership were unsuccessful, as scheduled engagements with party spokesman Okey Ezeala did not take place.
