Oyo Govt Urges Teachers To Resume Classes, Releases Funds
The Oyo State Government has appealed to the Nigeria Union of Teachers to return pupils to classrooms and resume academic activities across public schools.
The appeal followed the withdrawal of teachers after the abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area.
The government acknowledged the concerns raised by the union but warned that a prolonged shutdown could affect learning and create wider social and economic problems.
It also assured residents that efforts are ongoing to resolve the security situation and secure lasting peace.
At its latest Executive Council meeting, the state approved the release of ₦8.77 billion for the first phase of teaching and learning materials for primary and junior secondary schools.
The project, supported by UBEC and the World Bank, will provide textbooks in key subjects.
The council also approved funding for health, food security and trade programmes while increasing the 2026 budget to over ₦1.1 trillion.
Officials said the measures are aimed at completing ongoing projects, supporting residents facing hardship and boosting development across the state.
