Atiku Demands Answers From Tinubu On Missing Budget Funds
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has asked the administration of Bola Tinubu to explain claims that public spending equal to two per cent of Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product was left out of recent budgets.
He said the issue deserves an independent investigation.
His reaction followed a report by the International Monetary Fund, which raised concerns over gaps in Nigeria’s fiscal records.
The Fund advised the government to improve budget reporting and strengthen financial management to boost accountability.
Atiku said the reported omission should not be treated as a simple accounting mistake.
He also linked the matter to the controversy surrounding the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, arguing that both issues point to weak control over public funds.
He urged the National Assembly, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and other relevant agencies to investigate the matter.
He maintained that every public expenditure must be accounted for to restore confidence in government finances.
