FG Clears Air On NYSC Adire Uniform
The Federal Government has clarified that no decision has been made to replace the National Youth Service Corps khaki uniform with Adire.
Youth Development Minister Ayodele Olawande said reports claiming the change had been approved misrepresented his comments during a television interview.
The minister explained that Adire and Ankara were only examples of ideas being discussed as part of ongoing reforms. He said the government is still reviewing different options and has not approved any new fabric or design for corps members.
According to him, any future uniform must meet standards for appearance, durability, affordability, functionality and national identity. He added that consultations with stakeholders would guide the final decision rather than public speculation.
Olawande urged Nigerians to focus on the wider reforms planned for the NYSC, including better skills training, entrepreneurship and improved service delivery.
He said the proposed changes are aimed at making the scheme more useful for young Nigerians and the country.
