APC New Candidate List Sparks Row With INEC
Fresh uncertainty has hit the All Progressives Congress after the party replaced several National Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.
The revised list restored six serving senators and changed candidates in nine states. The move came after the party reviewed petitions from its primary election appeals.
The Independent National Electoral Commission warned that only candidates whose names match the results recorded during monitored primaries would be accepted.
The commission said its online nomination portal would block any submission that does not agree with the official records already uploaded.
Former Benue State Governor Gabriel Suswam lost the ticket he earlier secured, while Senators Sunday Karimi, Emmanuel Udende, Titus Zam, Shuaibu Isa Lau, Adeniyi Adegbonmire and Olajide Ipinsagba regained theirs.
Several House of Representatives candidates were also replaced after the party completed its review.
Although the APC believes the changes have settled many internal disputes, INEC’s position has created fresh uncertainty over the revised nominations.
The final outcome may now depend on whether the party’s updated list passes the commission’s verification process before the 2027 elections.
