Bishops Rejects Adeboye Marriage Advice
In Nigeria, a group of bishops has disagreed with Enoch Adeboye over his advice that men should avoid marrying women who cannot cook.
The criticism came after the Redeemed Christian Church of God leader shared guidance during a church programme on Saturday. The issue has sparked debate among religious leaders.
Adeboye had urged men to look beyond beauty when choosing a partner and focus on practical and spiritual qualities.
He warned that decisions based only on appearance could lead to problems in marriage. He also advised against expensive weddings and excessive focus on outward looks.
However, the Ecumenical Synods of Bishops Archbishops Apostles and Senior Clergy rejected the stance, saying cooking should not be a major factor in choosing a spouse.
Its leaders argued that such advice reflects personal views rather than a strict biblical rule. They maintained that values, character and responsibility matter more.
The bishops added that cooking is a skill that can be learned and should not define marriage decisions.
They also pointed to changing family roles, where work demands may limit time for domestic duties.
The disagreement reflects wider conversations on modern relationships and expectations within Christian communities.
