The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Nigerian superstar Asisat Lamina Oshoala as one of its newest Ambassadors, in recognition of her remarkable contributions to women’s football on the continent.

The appointment marks another proud achievement for the Ikorodu-born forward, who has become a symbol of excellence and inspiration for African women in sports.

Born on October 9, 1994, Oshoala’s football journey began at FC Robo Queens before she rose to global prominence with top clubs such as Barcelona and Bay FC. Her record-breaking career has made her one of Africa’s most decorated female footballers.

She is a six-time winner of the CAF Women’s Player of the Year award — claiming the title in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2022, and 2023 — the most by any African female player in history.

During the 2022–2023 season, Oshoala was in brilliant form for FC Barcelona Femení, finishing as Spain’s top scorer with more than 20 league goals and 27 in all competitions, helping the team win both the Liga F and the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

In her time at Barcelona, she scored 117 goals in 163 appearances, playing a key role in the club’s domestic and continental dominance.

On the international stage, the Super Falcons star has earned over 60 caps and scored close to 37 goals for Nigeria. She is also the first African player to score in three separate FIFA Women’s World Cups, further cementing her place in football history.

As a newly appointed CAF Ambassador, Oshoala is expected to use her platform to inspire young girls, promote women’s football development, and continue advocating for greater opportunities for female athletes across Africa.
