Gombe PDP Rejects Pantami Defection Bid
Governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party in Gombe State have pushed back against reports that former minister Isa Pantami may join the party to contest its governorship primary.
They warned that such a move could create tension within the party.
The aspirants raised their concerns in a statement released on Sunday, saying Pantami had already taken part in the APC governorship primary earlier in May 2026.
They argued that allowing him into the PDP race would go against electoral rules.
They also confirmed that PDP aspirants in the state had agreed to allow party leaders choose a consensus candidate from among them.
The decision was made to maintain order and respect the leadership structure in the state.
They urged the party to avoid any action that could trigger legal disputes or weaken internal unity.
They maintained that the PDP primary process should remain open only to qualified contestants already within the party.
