Court Nullifies N110bn Lawmakers Spending Package
The Federal High Court in Lagos has ruled against the National Assembly’s N110 billion vehicle and allowance package for lawmakers.
The judgment found that the spending plan, which covered vehicle purchases and support allowances, failed to meet legal and constitutional requirements.
The case centred on N40 billion used for the purchase of 465 vehicles for legislators and another N70 billion earmarked as support allowances for newly elected members.
The court held that the expenditures were carried out in a manner that violated procurement regulations and principles guiding the use of public funds.
In its decision, the court stated that public resources must be managed transparently and in line with established laws.
It found that the spending arrangement did not satisfy the standards expected of public institutions entrusted with taxpayers’ money.
The ruling marks a major development in the debate over government spending and accountability.
It also reinforces the obligation of public officials and institutions to comply with procurement rules and uphold public confidence in the management of national resources.
