FCCPC Clears Air On Airtime Claims
The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission has denied reports linking it to plans to open Nigeria’s airtime credit market to new operators.
The agency said it neither sought nor received presidential approval for such a move.
The clarification followed media reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu had approved a restructuring of the airtime credit sector under the administration’s Nigeria First policy.
The reports suggested that nine Nigerian fintech firms would be allowed to enter the market.
FCCPC stated that it was not involved in any process relating to the reported overhaul and urged the public to disregard information suggesting otherwise.
The commission maintained that the claims did not originate from the agency.
The development comes amid growing interest in Nigeria’s digital and telecommunications sectors.
FCCPC’s response is expected to clear up confusion surrounding the reported changes and the agency’s role in the matter.
