Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has decided to forgive TikTok creator Olaoluwa Segun, who earlier this year falsely claimed she was HIV positive.

Back in July, Amusa threatened legal action against Segun — known on TikTok as unofficial_olas001 — after he listed her among five Nigerian actors he alleged were living with HIV. The actress immediately debunked the claim, explaining that he had reused a 2019 post where she shared her HIV-negative status to encourage people to get tested.

At the time, Amusa expressed anger over the false accusation and vowed to make Segun a scapegoat to deter others from spreading damaging rumours.

However, in a video shared on Instagram on Monday, the actress revealed she had a change of heart after discovering that Segun had just lost his mother, was only 27 years old, and after personally meeting with his relatives.

“I did promise to make him a scapegoat, which I did, but along the line I realised he just lost his mum. I got to realise he is just a 27-year-old boy. I also got to meet his relatives, including his uncle,” she said.

Amusa also posted a clip of Segun apologising, saying: “I want to apologise to her fans, I’m very sorry about that. Now we’re friends.”

In her caption, Amusa thanked fans for their support and wrote: “Case closed. To err is human, to forgive is divine. Making mistakes is a natural and inherent part of being human, they say. Let’s be guided.”

Segun later took to TikTok to recount the experience, revealing he spent two days in detention at Yaba Panti police station over the incident.

“I want to thank Aunty Dayo Amusa for forgiving me. If not that she changed her mind and forgave me, I would have been there for a long time. I don’t pray to ever sleep in a cell again,” he said.
