Ekiti Bans Graduation Parties, Approves Textbook Reuse
The Ekiti State Government has confirmed that its ban on graduation ceremonies in kindergarten, nursery, primary and secondary schools remains in force.
The government also approved the reuse of textbooks by younger siblings if the books are still in good condition to help parents reduce education costs.
The Ministry of Education said the textbook review policy would continue without changes.
Primary school textbooks will be reviewed once every six years, while secondary school textbooks will now be reviewed once every four years instead of three, in line with the National Educational Research and Development Council’s guidelines.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mr Bayode Ogunmola, said the measures were introduced to make education more affordable for families across the state.
He added that the ban on graduation parties, which started in the 2025/2026 academic session, was aimed at reducing financial pressure on parents and stopping unnecessary spending.
The government warned that the directives are not open to negotiation and that anyone who violates them will face sanctions.
It also urged school owners, administrators, parents and other stakeholders to comply, while reaffirming its commitment to making education more accessible and beneficial to every child in Ekiti State.
