Boko Haram Storms Borno, Abducts NECO Candidates And Kills
Suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked Lassa in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday, abducting students sitting the ongoing NECO examination and several teachers.
At least one teacher was killed during the assault. The attack happened on a market day, sending residents fleeing for safety.
Witnesses said the gunmen, reportedly dressed in military camouflage and riding motorcycles, stormed the community and fired repeatedly.
They targeted the examination centre before taking an unknown number of candidates and teachers to an undisclosed location. Residents are still searching for other missing persons.
Community members claimed soldiers stationed in the area had reportedly left for a patrol in nearby Uba, about 16 kilometres away, before the attackers arrived.
They said the absence of security personnel allowed the terrorists to operate without resistance during the raid.
Attempts to get a response from the Borno State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the security situation in southern Borno, where communities continue to face repeated attacks despite ongoing military operations against insurgent groups.
