Obi, Kwankwaso Leads Fight Over NDC Deregistration
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) will today challenge the Federal High Court ruling that nullified its registration, following emergency meetings involving presidential candidate Peter Obi, National Leader Seriake Dickson, the party’s National Working Committee and other key figures.
The party said it remains determined to stay in the race ahead of the 2027 general election.
Party leaders said the appeal was finalised after several strategy sessions held over the weekend.
They insisted the Lokoja judgment would not stop the party or its candidates from appearing on the ballot, while Rabiu Kwankwaso urged members to remain calm and confident that the legal process would favour the party.
The NDC described the court decision as legally flawed and maintained that it was aimed at distracting the opposition.
Dickson, Obi, Kwankwaso and other leaders assured supporters that the party would continue its legal battle, while officials also announced plans to engage civil society groups and the media to defend its position.
Senior lawyers said the party has the constitutional right to appeal the ruling, noting that the Federal High Court is not the final authority on the matter.
While some legal experts expressed confidence that the appeal would be heard quickly, they advised the NDC to pursue every available legal option as the case moves to the Court of Appeal.
