Fear Spreads As Bandits Storm Niger Communities
Thousands of residents have fled several communities in Niger State after hundreds of armed bandits reportedly invaded the area on motorcycles on Sunday.
The attackers were said to have entered through parts of Kaduna and Zamfara states, causing panic across affected villages.
Residents of Kuchi, Chibani and Zagzaga communities in Munya Local Government Area abandoned their homes and moved to safer areas including Gwada and Minna.
Local sources claimed the bandits gathered in Kusasu community before moving deeper into the area.
Reports also indicated that an airstrike targeting the armed group was carried out on Saturday in Kusasu, with some civilians reportedly affected during the operation.
Community sources said several houses were damaged, though the exact number of casualties remains unclear.
Aminu Najume confirmed the invasion and said security agencies were already tracking the armed men.
He added that many residents fled out of fear while reports suggested the bandits may be targeting cattle in nearby communities.
