Tension Rises In Kwara APC Primaries Over Favoritism
House of Representatives aspirants in the APC in Kwara State have pushed back against claims that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is backing former Works Commissioner Abdulquawiy Olododo for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
They say the move is aimed at controlling the party’s structure and limiting open competition. The disagreement has added fresh tension within the state chapter of the ruling party.
Reports from within the party also suggest that some aspirants were asked to withdraw from the contest in exchange for possible political appointments.
There are further claims linking Olododo to earlier questioning by anti corruption officials, although he was later released.
These issues have fuelled concern among members about fairness in the selection process.
Party critics argue that the situation goes against earlier promises made during the 2019 political shift in Kwara, which aimed to open up the political space.
They say power should not remain within a small circle of influence or connected families.
Many members insist that candidates should emerge through open competition.
Other stakeholders are calling for a transparent primary process where all aspirants have equal opportunity.
They warn that imposed candidates could weaken trust within the party ahead of the elections. The governor’s camp has not issued an official response to the allegations.
