FG Files Charges Against Ministers In Coup Plot
The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge against Timipre Sylva and others over an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of Bola Tinubu.
The case, lodged at the Federal High Court Abuja, involves accusations of treason, terrorism, and related offences.
The defendants are expected to be arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
Alongside Sylva, those listed include a retired major general, a retired naval officer, a serving police inspector, and three others.
Prosecutors allege that the group conspired to undermine the government and failed to report intelligence about the plot. Authorities also claim some of the accused attended meetings tied to the alleged plan.
The charges further include claims of terrorism financing and money laundering, with investigators tracing funds linked to the alleged activities.
Some defendants are accused of holding large sums believed to be proceeds of unlawful acts. Sylva was listed as being at large at the time of filing.
The case follows earlier concerns about a possible coup plot raised in 2025, which led to heightened security measures.
While the accused have denied wrongdoing, the trial is expected to draw wide attention as proceedings begin.
