INEC Sets New PVC Deadline Ahead Of Ekiti Vote
The Independent National Electoral Commission has shifted the deadline for Permanent Voter Card collection in Ekiti State.
The new closing date is June 14, 2026, moved from June 11 to allow more voters take part in the June 20 governorship election.
The announcement was made in Ado-Ekiti during a stakeholders’ meeting. The Social Democratic Party has also been added to the ballot, raising participating parties to 15.
INEC said preparations for the off-cycle election have been completed across the state. The voter register now stands at 1,059,360 people, up from 987,647 in 2023.
About 66,664 new voters were added through registration exercises. At the same time, 2,103 duplicate entries were removed after biometric checks, with voters spread across 16 local government areas, 117 wards and 2,445 polling units.
The commission confirmed that voting will run with the BVAS system for voter identification and accreditation.
It also said results will be uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing portal to support openness in the process. Election materials and staff movement are being arranged with transport unions.
Security agencies and anti-corruption bodies will also monitor against violence and vote buying, while voting is set to begin by 8:30am in all polling units.
INEC has accredited 91 media organisations and 98 observer groups for the election, with hundreds of journalists and monitors deployed across Ekiti State.
The commission urged all parties to act responsibly after signing a peace agreement in May. It also restated its neutral position in the contest.
Officials added that the Ekiti election will serve as a key test for electoral conduct ahead of the 2027 general elections.
