The Federal Government has announced that candidates seeking admission into education courses and non-engineering agriculture programmes will no longer be required to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

The new policy will begin from the 2026 and 2027 admission session.

The decision was unveiled during the annual admission policy meeting organised by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board in Abuja.

Education Minister Tunji Alausa said candidates with at least four credit passes in relevant subjects can now apply to Colleges of Education without taking the UTME.

Despite the exemption, affected candidates will still register with JAMB for documentation and admission processing.

Their credentials will also be screened and verified through the Central Admissions Processing System before admission is approved.

The policy is expected to change admission procedures for thousands of students across the country.

Education stakeholders believe the move could encourage more students to study teaching and agriculture-related courses.
